Digitalization of Maintenance and Asset Data

The ESReDA Project Group on Digital Maintenance and Asset Digitalization focuses on the transformation of maintenance and asset management through digital technologies. It addresses how data, models and digital twins can be effectively integrated to improve reliability, performance and lifecycle value of assets. The group promotes cross-disciplinary approaches that connect engineering, data analytics and management to support informed decision-making across the asset lifecycle.

ESReDA Project Group on Digitalization of Maintenance and Asset Data

The ESReDA Project Group on Digitalization of Maintenance and Asset Data (DMAD) focuses on advancing the understanding and application of digital technologies in maintenance engineering and asset management. The group addresses one of the core drivers of the current industrial transformation: the integration of data, models, and digital technologies into maintenance and asset management practices to improve performance, reliability, and value creation.

Digitalization of maintenance and asset data has become a critical enabler for modern asset management, supporting more informed decision-making across the asset life cycle. DMAD operates within the ESReDA framework as a collaborative platform that brings together academia, industry, and institutions to exchange knowledge, align practices, and promote structured and sustainable digital transformation approaches in maintenance and asset management.

The Project Group builds on existing research, industrial practices, and standardization efforts, while explicitly aiming to avoid fragmented or isolated digital initiatives (“digital islands”). Its activities are closely connected to ongoing developments in industrial digitalization, artificial intelligence, digital twins, and data-driven maintenance strategies.

Scope of the Project Group

The scope of the DMAD Project Group covers the digitalization of maintenance and asset data throughout the asset life cycle, with particular emphasis on industrial assets and complex technical systems.

The Project Group promotes:

  • The development and application of structured frameworks for digital maintenance and asset management.
  • The integration of data models, analytics, and digital technologies (including AI and digital twins) into maintenance decision-making.
  • The alignment of digital maintenance initiatives with asset management objectives and organizational strategies.

DMAD adopts a technical and application-oriented perspective, addressing methodological, technological, and organizational aspects of digital maintenance. The Project Group encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge transfer between sectors, while remaining focused on practical implementation and demonstrable value creation.

Objectives

The Project Group pursues the following three main objectives:

  1. To provide a forum where researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and institutions can meet, exchange ideas, and collaborate on topics related to the digitalization of maintenance and asset data.
  2. To develop and consolidate technical references and shared roadmaps that reflect the state of the art and emerging practices in digital maintenance and asset management.
  3. To disseminate the outcomes of the Project Group’s work, with emphasis on practical applicability, through ESReDA seminars, publications, and other relevant channels.
